Storage Size/Dimensions: Minimum 200 square feet, with dimensions of 20ft x 10ft. Height clearance: 10 feet. A dedicated area of 10ft x 10ft should be designated for sorting and inspection.
Storage Conditions: Dry storage is required. The storage area must be well-ventilated to prevent moisture buildup and maintain air circulation. Dust and debris should be minimized to prevent contamination.
Special Handling: Grapes are delicate and prone to bruising. Each crate or box should be surrounded with adequate padding – bubble wrap or foam – to protect against damage during handling. Boxes should not be stacked excessively high to prevent crushing.
Stacking/Shelving: Pallet storage is recommended, utilizing standard 48” high pallets. Shelving units with adjustable shelves are acceptable, but shelves should be spaced at least 36” apart to allow for easy access. Stacking crates is permitted, but limit stacks to a maximum height of 4 crates.
Access Requirements: Loading dock with a minimum width of 12 feet and a door width of 9 feet. A clear aisle space of at least 8 feet wide is necessary for forklift access. A minimum of 3 feet of clearance at the dock is needed for safe loading and unloading operations.
