Storage Size/Dimensions: Minimum 200 square feet, 15ft x 13ft area, Height clearance: 9 feet. A dedicated aisle space of 4 feet wide is required.
Storage Conditions: The storage area should be dry and well-ventilated. Adequate airflow is crucial to prevent mildew and maintain the quality of the yarn. Storage should be on the floor, avoiding direct sunlight.
Special Handling: Yarn is generally a fragile material. All items should be stored with padding – bubble wrap, cardboard, or foam – to prevent tangling, stretching, and damage during handling. Consider using mesh bags or yarn protectors for individual skeins.
Stacking/Shelving: Items can be stored on sturdy shelving units with adjustable shelves. Shelving should be approximately 48 inches high. Pallet storage is acceptable for bulk yarn, but ensure pallets are stable and properly stacked. Limit stacking to 3-4 levels to prevent excessive weight on lower shelves.
Access Requirements: The warehouse loading dock should have a 12ft wide x 10ft deep access point. The loading bay door needs to be at least 8ft wide with a minimum clearance of 10ft. Forklift access is required for moving larger quantities of yarn. A 6ft clearance around shelving units is needed for easy access.
